Synthetic memory becomes a counter-surveillance tactic: fiction as noise inside systems of extraction.
Beginning as a live performance at the 16th Istanbul Biennial, <andata> later transformed PASAJ into a working space populated by AI-generated posters, fake memories and a speculative organisation from the future.
Participants share fragments of personal memory through a live communication channel. Language models transform these fragments into artificial memories: synthetic narratives that blur and contaminate the private self within extractive information systems.
These fake memories function as counter-data, or contradata, inside systems that profile, predict and monetise experience. Through participatory exchange and AI collaboration, the work asks whether fiction can become a privacy strategy, turning the gallery into a fabrication lab for unstable, collective memory.
